This lecture was difficult to hear, but from what I could understand Batman Zavareze comes from a graphic design background for 16 years. He then became interested in the concept of New Media.

In observing, it seems he utilizes these tools for advertisement. Computer generated images are projected on walls, animations are used at fashion shows. He has taken his background of advertisement/graphic design and adapted it to new technologies.

Of course I am only speculating based on what i've seen. Thoughts?

It seems that the more difficult ones are always the most fun to try and figure out what they are talking about, and what they are saying. From what I could get from the video and from what Steve has said, alongside some googling, I've found that Batman Zavareze seems to be a pretty interesting guy. I watched some of his stuff on YouTube, and its all really nice stuff, it’s funny because he totally uses the same concept as the 3600 image project that we did in 304 for Raph. Only his seem to be more design oriented.

Again, this is one of the few lectures that was hard to hear and understand. From reviewing what Steve and Brian have said Batman (pretty sweet name) seems to be just another visual artist who has come from a similar creative technological background , in this case graphic design as Steve has stated, and has used that background to utilize his success as a visual artist.

Steve also said that some of his images and/or animations are projected on walls and used at fashion shows. Intersting, because I was just flipping through the channels and some celeb gossip/news program showed a highlight from a fashion show. To my surprise they were indeed projecting images that were VJ-esque onto the walls which I'm guessing were to set the mood of the show. Interesting to see how involved those artists would be with the mapping festival world and what not.

Holy Batman! I thought his background in graphic design was awesome because I've always thought that I would choose that for a career later in life. To see Batman Zavareze make the switch from graphic designer to New Media artist, makes me think about myself. I used to want to be a graphic designer, but now I want to follow my dream and do my production company, and be a New Media artist.

Something Kory said gave me hope. He said that Batman was a graphic designer TURNED new media artist. I get really annoyed when people are like "photoshop is new media" because they don't know what the hell they are talking about. It's good to see that other new media students get that new media is not making pretty layouts or designs (though you can use those skills to FUEL a career in new media because the more skills the better). The lecture was almost unwatchable, but hey at least he has a superhero name!!! Seriously though, I think his examples of "career switching" shows the ever-changing industry and the misconceptions of what it means to be in new media. though I don't know his specific reasons for graphic design, new media artists implies a lot more than layouts, but in my opinion the more new media artists (and not corporate photoshoppers) the better!
