Hearing feedback on both Stephen and Brian's project provided me with a better understanding of what is to be expected of this project. I thought Stephen's idea/project was a good starting point, but I must agree with Raph in that since the general idea of the project, that of audio effecting visual has already been done, the project could be taken a little bit further. However, since the project is already in its beginning stage, to take it further would not be an insurmountable feat. I know that the VJ software Modul8 has a built in effect where when nearby sounds are picked up, certain effects are then applied to a video clip(s). To take this general idea "further" would be great to see.

I also liked Brains idea because he is using sources, like the disney movies etc. which should be "trustworthy" but have shown a dark side through the impact of the media and society. The messages that are displayed throughout the visual society and culture are often ones which impact us greatly when in actuality, these messages of "super slim beauty" and the like are ones we should ignore. Definitely an interesting idea that I'm sure Brian will explore and execute well.

I believe that in order for new ideas to emerge the path to self-discovery is vital. Duplicating what has been done is one thing, but taking basic concepts and gaining knowledge in your own creation is something completely different.
I was wrong in calling it an exploration of DJ/VJ; Raph was right to correct me as to it being an audio/visual performance- but it's also a piece where I explore the use of audio in manipulating video and trying to create a cohesive piece.
We have set up the video along a wall that runs parrallel to the real street lights, which adds some ambiguity- but many people walking by had commented on seeing some connection between the video and the atmosphere in which it was being projected, as if it fit in some weird way.

Getting a good understanding of what is expected in the final project is always good. I agree with Neil about Brians project, I think it's a great idea. I have always told my friends that I didn't like Disney movies because of the darker concepts and the dark side of their movies, and I always get the strangest look. That's because not many people look critically at the media, or the subtle messages.

It was good to get feedback on Stephens project because we are doing a collaboration piece. I will be playing guitar for it. We thought it up after class one day while we were thinking about finals. We went back and forth about it, what we were both interested in etc. and the rest is history.

It's neat to be doing installations. I have never done one, but someday I will. Brian's project very lieterally is critical of media, which hopefully is aparent to people when they see the project and even kory and stephen's project goes out there and combines mediums in a way to better achieve first hand experience.

I am trying some things with my video that I have not done before - trying to break basic narrative structures and work with more technique and working specificially with a concept and creating sort of mini-narratives but overall just focusing on the concept rather than point A - Z, its more like here is A and here are pieces of A, who knows, hopefully it turns out looking nice!

I'm excited to see the final projects though, the important thing with the finals seem to be experimentation with narrative structure, that's what i'm aiming for at least!

I think that overall as we come to an ending of the semester that I have learned a great deal, I also think that my experience in this class has helped me to achieve a great deal of an understanding for the more conceptual side to New Media, and I hope to utilize that approach from now on.

In my piece as you’ve all watched I'm going to be critical of the media we are absorbing on a daily basis, along with the interjections of Disney movie clips, to help out a bit, because there are some that are just… how to put it, I guess interesting.

I’m hoping that in using these clips in juxtaposition to my own clips and melding them together people will be able to see the way that the media has impacted them as they have grown up in it. I think that the clips will do that and also evoke an cognitive reaction.

Also I am eager to possibly see, based on my own experience with watching the clips, that people will remember when they were children, and remember what the movies meant to them then, and then now that they are confronted with the images that I’ve found within the movies that they will reflect on how the experience of seeing the difference of the two time periods of their life have then been changed.

And with the rest of the installation I hope only to reinforce this idea of media in our society, and in our lives, and to make people think of how we are so wrapped up in it.

I was very impressed by Stephen's piece, not the concept per-se, but the execution. I'm not good at any sort of programming, and so when I see work done like that, it really amazes me. Having said that, the concept, as Raph mentioned a couple times, does seem a bit like re-inventing the wheel; however, as Niel mentioned, it wouldn't be impossible to take it to the next level. I think you could go further with it and perhaps do a live performance where you play an instrument and have it hooked up to the computer which will project the image of the lights corresponding to the music behind you...or you can come up with something else, the possibilities really are limitless. You can turn it into a message, creating numerous audio tracks, adding more and more sound into it, to show the bombardment we face every day by sound and light media. You can do lots of things.

Brian, you actually explained your idea to me outside of class, and I really liked it. I think it's very meaningful, although I personally like oldschool Disney stuff, and that it definitely has a good point: not everything is as it seems, there is subliminal messaging in everything; we are safe from no aspect of society and media. I look forward to seeing the final project!

I haven't done anything nearly so artsy as you two have - I am going to create a narrative piece and incorporate superimposition into it, and also try to address some of the issues of simulation vs. reality.
